Arizona is a program-approval state: its Board of Nursing wants an out-of-state APRN program cleared before a single student starts clinicals there. How UofM's lists treat Arizona
Arizona is not one of the 16 states the Office of Community Partnerships and Practice lists as authorized. The MSN and certificate licensure disclosures, which rate the curriculum against each state's APRN licensing rules, still say Yes for Arizona in all three NP specialties.

AZBN clears the program before clinicals
For a UofM student, Arizona's gate sits at the program level. AZBN regulates APRN education as well as pre-licensure schools, and its 2020 advisory opinion has a school from another state file with the Board first, so no UofM student could log Arizona hours until that step is done. A track from elsewhere gets a shorter review if two things hold: its home board approved that exact track, and a national accreditor recognizes the school with no standing problems.
UofM's programs carry Tennessee Board of Nursing approval and CCNE accreditation, but AZBN's site could not be reached during research, so UofM's Arizona status is unconfirmed. Ask LCON directly.

Credentials on both sides of the practicum
Tennessee and Arizona both sit inside the Nurse Licensure Compact, Arizona since January 19, 2018. UofM wants you eligible to work as an RN in the approved state hosting your clinicals, and AZBN wants visiting APRN students licensed in Arizona or holding a multistate license, unencumbered either way. Your preceptor clears a separate bar. If an NP will precept you, AZBN checks for Arizona APRN certification plus an unrestricted RN license from Arizona or the compact; if a physician, the Arizona medical license must be unrestricted. AANP lists Arizona under full practice.
Metro areas and health systems
Two metros hold most Arizonans. Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler passed 5.2 million residents in the 2025 estimates and Tucson sits near 1.07 million, with Prescott Valley-Prescott and the Lake Havasu City-Kingman area far behind. Named only to show the range of settings: Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Phoenix Children's, TMC Health in Tucson, HonorHealth in Scottsdale, and Banner Health, which runs the Banner - University Medicine academic centers.
Arizona law (A.R.S. 36-1806) set up grants for volunteer preceptors of graduate students, rural primary care first. The Joint Legislative Budget Committee's FY 2027 report leaves both FY 2026 and FY 2027 unfunded, so the program looks inactive.

Questions UofM students ask
Is UofM's online PMHNP open to Arizona residents?
UofM gives two answers. Arizona is absent from the partnerships office's authorized list, but the licensure disclosure marks the PMHNP track Yes for Arizona. Ask the Loewenberg College of Nursing to settle it in writing before you apply, and ask in the same message whether the program holds AZBN approval.
Does a multistate license from Arizona work for UofM clinicals?
It covers what AZBN asks of an out-of-state APRN student, who needs an Arizona or a multistate RN license with no encumbrance. It also matches UofM's rule linking your RN eligibility to the approved state where you train, as long as LCON counts Arizona as approved.
Could my UofM preceptor in Arizona be a physician?
Arizona lets physicians precept APRN students if their Arizona medical license carries no encumbrance. UofM narrows that: every NP track needs at least one rotation with a nurse practitioner as preceptor, so plan an NP for at least one of your UofM rotations.
Does AZBN's rule cover UofM's Nursing Education or Leadership immersions?
AZBN describes its reach as pre-licensure and APRN programs, and the rules behind this guide are silent on educator and leadership immersions and on RN to BSN study. Those tracks are also missing from UofM's 16-state list, so confirm Arizona for them with LCON.
How often would I fly from Arizona to Memphis?
NP students attend up to three on-campus intensives of one to three days, with dates announced at least six months ahead. The January 2027 session is required for every NP track. The intensives guide explains what each visit covers.
