Every quote is written for one student's plan. It reflects your UofM track, the number of practicums in scope, your home area and how soon the first clinical day arrives, and it spells out the work included: finding the preceptor, matching UofM's rules and preparing the details UofM reviews.

Why each quote is written for one plan

The same service can mean very different work for two UofM students. Picture an FNP student in Midtown Memphis who needs a family practice rotation: that search draws from a different pool of clinicians than the one for an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP student in a rural West Tennessee county who needs a preceptor whose practice includes inpatient care. One flat figure could not describe both fairly.

That is why your placement advisor studies the details first and then sends a written quote. It names the practicums it covers and the work that goes into each one, so the scope is settled before the search begins. If your plans change later, for example a new home address or an added practicum, the quote is revisited with you. Our terms describe how quotes and third-party charges fit together.

What moves a quote

The factors your advisor weighs

Track and course. Settings UofM requires, such as inpatient and critical care practice for AG-ACNP or both outpatient and inpatient psychiatric settings for PMHNP, narrow the field more than a general primary care rotation. The rotation rules set these by track.
How many practicums the plan covers. One course is one search; a full sequence through the residency is several searches planned together.
Where you live. Cities offer more practices to ask than a rural county does, and practicums in Mississippi, Arkansas or farther away add their own license and approval checks.
Lead time. A request made a full term ahead leaves room for a health system's application window; a request a few weeks out compresses the same work into a short span.
Site-side steps. Some health systems want applications months in advance or a signed affiliation agreement first, and that adds coordination.
Special constraints. Limited days, a tight driving radius, or an FNP residency that has to sit in family practice or internal medicine all shape how the search runs.

What the quote covers

Each practicum in your written quote carries the same five pieces of work, in this order. Together they take you from a blank search to a file ready for UofM's review:

The confirmationA preceptor who has agreed to your term and hours, a site that accepts UofM students, and a schedule that can run at least seven weeks.
The agreement detailsLicense, certification and practice information from the preceptor, and the site's own details, collected for the preceptor agreement form.
The clearance reviewA pass through your Complio and myClinicalExchange items so nothing lapses during the placement.
Replacement supportCoverage for the whole term, restarting the search if a preceptor steps away, on the terms your quote sets out.

Costs that come from UofM's process

Some costs belong to the clinical process itself and sit outside any placement quote. UofM's Academic Bulletin and its MSN required documents page place several on the student:

A DISA Complio account, which students buy on admission to track health data and compliance.
The annual criminal background check, at the student's expense.
The drug screen within 30 days before each fall and spring clinical term, also at the student's expense.
Malpractice coverage, which LCON obtains and maintains, with the group policy charge billed to your student account.
The nursing clinical ID card, and travel to and from clinical sites, which the college leaves to the student without reimbursement.

How timing changes the work

Time is the factor you control most. UofM's NP tracks put the first precepted practicum in a Spring term, so a search that opens the Fall before leaves room for health system applications, the preceptor agreement form and your clearance items. A search that opens in the last weeks before the semester is still workable, but the same steps are packed into a narrow window.

In every case, UofM approves each preceptor and site. The quote covers thorough, accurate work toward that approval; the decision itself stays with the college.

Getting your quote

A quote starts with four facts: your concentration or certificate, the practicum course and term, your town, and how far you can travel. If you want the whole sequence planned, list every practicum left in your plan of study.

Your placement advisor reads the details, asks about anything unclear, and replies with a written quote that names what it includes. Most questions get answered in that first exchange: which practicums to include, how the site steps work in your area, and when the search should open. Questions UofM students ask

Why are placement prices quoted individually?

Because the work varies so much from one UofM plan to the next. An FNP family practice rotation in Memphis, an AG-ACNP inpatient practicum in a rural county and a full PMHNP sequence are different searches with different amounts of site coordination. A written quote for your plan reflects the actual work and lists what it covers, which makes it easy to judge.

Can one quote cover every practicum in my program?

It can. You decide whether the quote covers a single course, such as the first FNP practicum, or the whole sequence through the residency. Planning several practicums together often makes the search more efficient, since a practice that suits one course may suit a later one where UofM's rules allow a return.

Is the Complio account part of the quote?

It is a separate cost. UofM requires each student to buy a DISA Complio account on admission, and the student also pays for the background check and drug screen. Those belong to UofM's clearance process. What we add is a check of your items against your placement dates, so nothing expires partway through a practicum.

What happens to my quote if a preceptor drops out?

Backup coverage is built into our process, and your written quote states how it applies to your plan. When a preceptor steps away, a new search starts right away and a fresh agreement file is prepared, since UofM needs written approval from clinical faculty and the clinical coordinator before a site changes.

Does a late request change the quote?

It can. The calendar is one of the inputs, because a short window concentrates the work into fewer weeks and leaves less room around health system application periods. Starting a full term before your practicum gives the search the widest set of options and keeps the work on its standard pace. Your advisor explains how your dates affect the quote.
