Connecticut in UofM's state records
The Office of Community Partnerships and Practice includes Connecticut among the 16 states where it says the college is currently authorized, and the NP licensure disclosures say Yes as well. Those are good signs, not an admission decision.

A compact state since October 2025
Until recently, a nurse moving to Connecticut needed a Connecticut license. That changed on October 1, 2025, when Connecticut's compact participation took effect. The health department now lets an RN student practice on a Connecticut credential or on the multistate credential from the student's compact home state, and Tennessee, UofM's home, belongs to the same compact.
For UofM, the test is RN eligibility in Tennessee or in the approved state hosting your practicum. A Connecticut resident usually holds a Connecticut-issued license, which can now be multistate, and that meets the test. Our RN license guide explains the details.
How Connecticut's rules touch a UofM practicum
Connecticut's nursing board, formally the Board of Examiners for Nursing, works within the Department of Public Health. Regulation 20-90-59 gives an outside program approved status automatically, on three conditions: Tennessee's Board (for UofM) has approved it, its curriculum passes Connecticut's RN rule, and Tennessee's licensure bar is at least as high. Nothing in it tells UofM to file or notify. The catch is scope, since these rules target programs leading to first licensure and never mention APRN programs.
Read them as a preview of what a Connecticut site may expect. Contracts must be in writing. A preceptor takes two students at most, and a faculty member oversees no more than 16 precepted students. Under 20-90-51(f), someone precepting advanced-level students holds a BSN, two or more years in that role or specialty, and an RN license that is active in Connecticut or in the precepting state.
Where care concentrates, and the path to full practice
Just under 1.2 million people live in the Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford metro. Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury comes close to a million, New Haven holds roughly 580,000, and Waterbury-Shelton about 460,000. Trinity Health Of New England, Yale New Haven Health, Hartford HealthCare and UConn Health are examples, along with Northwell Health, the New York system that now runs former Nuvance hospitals such as Danbury Hospital.
AANP labels Connecticut full practice, but only after an NP's first three years and 2,000 hours spent in a collaborative arrangement with a physician. For a future Connecticut NP from UofM, that comes after licensure and sits apart from the program's clinical hours.

Can Connecticut residents enroll in UofM's online PMHNP?
Connecticut is on the partnerships office's authorized list, and the licensure disclosure marks the PMHNP Yes there. Admission still depends on UofM's review, and its state pages have differed before, so ask the Loewenberg College of Nursing to confirm Connecticut before you apply.
Does Connecticut need a filing from UofM before I start clinicals?
The written rules suggest not: Connecticut deems outside programs approved when home-board approval and a couple of other tests are in place, and no separate notice is described. Those rules were drafted for pre-licensure schools, so confirm with LCON how Connecticut views UofM's graduate practicums.
Does Connecticut accept multistate RN licenses from other compact states?
It has since October 1, 2025. Connecticut residents normally hold a Connecticut license as their home-state license, so if yours was issued before the compact took effect, check whether it is single-state or multistate before your UofM practicum begins.
How many UofM students can one Connecticut preceptor take?
Two at most, under the ratio in Connecticut's education rules, and a faculty member may supervise no more than 16 precepted students. That rule sits in the pre-licensure regulations, yet a Connecticut site may apply it anyway, so expect one-to-one or paired precepting.
