What UofM's records say about Florida
UofM's Office of Community Partnerships and Practice counts Florida among the 16 states where it reports current authorization, and UofM's licensure disclosures give Florida a Yes for the three NP tracks. Two sources agreeing is a helpful start, though admission is always UofM's own decision.

Florida's Board and a Tennessee graduate program
Section 464.019, Florida's law on approving nursing programs, is written for schools that teach pre-licensure students inside the state, and the Board's approval pages follow that same scope. Nothing located in the statute or on the Board's pages obliges a Memphis-based graduate program to file for Florida approval or give notice before a UofM student logs precepted hours there.
That puts the approvals that matter back at UofM: the preceptor agreement form, which the partnerships office must approve before your first day, a schedule approved by clinical faculty, and every Complio and myClinicalExchange item completed and accepted, since site approval waits on them.
Protocols, compact licenses and your preceptor
Florida sits in AANP's restricted column: apart from the exemptions, many Florida NPs keep a physician protocol in place throughout their careers. If your Florida preceptor practices under one, that protocol frames the practice you will be learning in.
Florida's compact membership took effect on January 19, 2018; Tennessee belongs too. A multistate license from Florida therefore meets UofM's licensing condition for clinicals in an approved state. Our guide to UofM's RN license rule goes deeper.
Four large metros, many settings
Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach tops 6.3 million residents. Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater is near 3.4 million and Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford close to 3 million, while Jacksonville, at roughly 1.79 million, is the smallest of the four. As a sample of Florida systems, not a list of UofM sites: AdventHealth (headquartered in Florida), UF Health, HCA Florida Healthcare, Baptist Health South Florida and BayCare Health System.
Florida's TEACH program helps qualifying facilities, such as federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics, that host APRN and nursing students, yet it counts only students whose accredited program is Florida-based. UofM is in Memphis, so its placements fall outside it.

Questions UofM students ask
Can I complete UofM's online FNP program while living in Florida?
Both of UofM's relevant sources point the same way for Florida: the partnerships office lists it as authorized, and the MSN disclosure marks the FNP Yes. That makes Florida one of the clearer states for UofM, but have the Loewenberg College of Nursing verify Florida before you apply, since its state pages have not always matched.
Must Florida sign off on UofM before my practicum starts?
The approval statute, section 464.019, reaches pre-licensure schools, and this guide found no Florida rule making a graduate or APRN program from elsewhere register or notify. Your practicum still needs UofM's own approvals before day one, starting with the preceptor agreement.
My Florida NP preceptor practices under a physician protocol. Is that a problem for UofM?
Nothing in the research behind this guide ties Florida's protocol rule to precepting. UofM's conditions are about who and where: a nurse practitioner must precept one or more of your rotations in any NP track, and FNP students need a family practice rotation.
Can my UofM clinicals happen at the Florida hospital where I work?
Only in special cases. UofM bars practicum hours at a site that currently employs you unless compelling circumstances exist, and then faculty and program administration must approve and document the arrangement. A Florida hospital or clinic where you are not on staff is the simpler route.
