Idaho residents and the University of Memphis MSN
For an Idaho nurse, the license side of UofM's online MSN is straightforward, because an Idaho multistate license already reaches Tennessee. Enrollment is the open question. Idaho does not appear among the partnerships office's 16 authorized states, yet UofM's licensure disclosure answers yes for it, so settle that with LCON before planning practicums near Boise or anywhere else in the state.

UofM's graduate residency page adds that each student living outside Tennessee must verify the program against their own state's advanced licensure rules. The state authorization guide gathers UofM's sources in one place.
Idaho licensing, and a rule written for APRN students
Nursing licenses in Idaho come from the Board of Nursing, housed within DOPL, the state's occupational licensing division. Idaho began honoring compact licenses in January 2018, and Tennessee is a compact state too, so one Idaho multistate license covers you on both ends. That fits UofM's license rule, which looks for RN eligibility in Tennessee or in whichever approved state holds your clinicals (RN license rules).
Idaho's rules go a step further for graduate students. A student enrolled in a nationally accredited APRN program who already holds an Idaho license, or the multistate privilege to work there, may perform advanced practice duties that are a built-in part of the curriculum. UofM's MSN holds CCNE accreditation through June 2030 (accreditation). AANP ranks Idaho as a full practice state.
The Board's word on schools based elsewhere
The approval provisions in Idaho law and rule (section 54-1406 of the Idaho Code, plus IDAPA 24.34.01.150) are written for programs taught inside Idaho, and neither contains a clause on practicums run by an out-of-state school. The Board's page for out-of-state and online programs simply asks schools located elsewhere to write to its licensing staff for requirements.
Idaho's 2024 education policy is still worth knowing. It expects clinical preceptors to be licensed at or above the level a student is preparing for, and the faculty member chiefly responsible for each APRN specialty course to carry an Idaho APRN license. Whether that policy reaches a Tennessee program is a question for LCON and the Board, so ask rather than assume.
Practicums from Boise to Coeur d'Alene
UofM runs its MSN courses online and sets the practicums in person, near the student's home. In Idaho that ranges from the Boise metro, the state's largest, to Coeur d'Alene up north and to Idaho Falls and Twin Falls across the south.
St. Luke's, Saint Alphonsus and Kootenai Health are cited only to show scale, not as sites committed to UofM students. Whatever the setting, UofM's NP tracks need an NP as preceptor for one rotation or more; the FNP adds family practice and the AG-ACNP adds inpatient care (rotation rules).

Questions UofM students ask
Do I need a separate Tennessee license if I live in Idaho?
Not if your Idaho license is multistate. It already carries the privilege to practice in Tennessee and the other compact states. Keep it active and unencumbered for the whole program, because UofM ends enrollment for any student who loses an unencumbered RN license.
Is Idaho on UofM's list of authorized states?
The partnerships office's list of 16 leaves Idaho out. UofM's MSN licensure disclosure still lists Idaho under meets requirements for all three NP tracks, while UofM Global cites SARA membership covering 49 states. With the sources pointing different ways, get a written answer from LCON on Idaho before applying.
Does the Idaho Board have to approve my UofM practicums?
No Idaho statute or rule found speaks to practicums run by an out-of-state school. The Board's web page asks programs located elsewhere to contact it for requirements. Ask LCON early whether it has raised Idaho practicums with the Board, and keep your own license and UofM compliance items current in the meantime.
Where must an Idaho FNP student complete the residency?
UofM sets one rule for every FNP student, whatever the state: the residency happens in family practice or internal medicine. A specialty area can claim no more than 60 residency hours, and only with advance approval from the Track Coordinator. The FNP program guide walks through the full course sequence.
