UofM's online MSN for nurses who live in Nevada
Nevada is one of the 16 states LCON's partnerships office lists as authorized, and UofM's licensure disclosure agrees. Two Nevada rules still shape the practicum: bedside work there calls for a Nevada RN license, and a school teaching online needs the Board's sign-off before its students train in the state. A Nevada license for Nevada patients
Nevada stays outside the multistate compact for RNs, with no move to join on record. Although Tennessee is a compact member, its multistate license stops at the Nevada line. A Board practice decision goes further: treating a patient who is physically in Nevada requires a Nevada license, and hands-on clinical education is one of the activities it lists.
To enter UofM's MSN you must be able to work as a registered nurse in Tennessee, or in whichever approved state holds your clinicals. Practicums in Las Vegas or Reno therefore point to a Nevada RN license, active and unrestricted from the first practicum to the last. See the RN license page for UofM's wording.
NAC 632.703 and the Board's clinical-only list
Nevada's rule for schools from elsewhere sits in NAC 632.703. A school teaching part of its program in the state files a report on the Board's form, shows its accreditation or approval, and sends yearly school reports. If the school delivers its program online or in some other nontraditional way, Board approval must come first before any clinical teaching happens in Nevada, and faculty teaching there hold Nevada licenses. The text treats pre-licensure and graduate schools alike.
The Board posts which out-of-state schools may run just the clinical piece of their programs in Nevada. The copy dated September 1, 2026 carries only pre-licensure ADN and BSN programs, and UofM is absent. Before you rely on a Nevada site, ask LCON whether it has that approval or intends to seek it.
Preceptors, practice authority and the two big metros
A 2005 Board practice decision governs precepted clinicals. The school's faculty stay in charge of each student's experience and can be reached during shifts. A preceptor handles two students at most and must be physically present, and the school supplies an orientation plus written goals for the rotation.
AANP lists Nevada under full practice. Newer NPs face one limit: Schedule II prescribing opens after two years or 2,000 hours of clinical work, or earlier under a protocol a physician has approved. Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas dwarfs the other metros, with Reno and Carson City in the north. UMC of Southern Nevada, Renown Health, the Valley Health System, Sunrise Health System and Dignity Health illustrate the settings, and their mention implies no tie to UofM. Somewhere in each NP track, at least one rotation has to be with a nurse practitioner (rotation rules).

Does a Tennessee multistate license cover Nevada practicums?
It does not. Nevada is not a compact state, and its Board counts hands-on clinical education as nursing practice that needs a Nevada license. Secure yours before the first practicum and keep it clean throughout, since losing an unencumbered RN license ends a UofM student's enrollment.
If Nevada is on UofM's authorized list, am I cleared for clinicals there?
Not automatically. That list concerns UofM enrolling Nevada residents. The Nevada Board runs its own approval for online schools that teach clinicals in the state, and its September 2026 roster of clinical-only approvals shows pre-licensure programs alone. How many UofM students can share one Nevada preceptor?
Two, going by the Board's 2005 practice decision, and the preceptor has to be there in person. The decision also expects UofM faculty to direct your learning and the school to brief the preceptor with written goals.
How often will a Nevada student travel to campus?
