Indiana and UofM's online nurse practitioner tracks
On paper, Indiana is one of the simpler places to study UofM's online MSN. It belongs to the nurse compact, and its Board of Nursing leaves graduate programs outside its review. What stays unresolved is UofM's own state list, which skips Indiana even though the licensure disclosure says yes, so confirm your eligibility with LCON before you apply.

What the Indiana Board reviews, and what it leaves alone
Indiana's nursing board operates inside the state's Professional Licensing Agency. On the education side, it accredits in-state programs that train people toward their first nursing license, RN or LPN, and its rule on which programs qualify stops at pre-licensure RN and PN education (848 IAC 1-2-4).
The Board says on its education page that it has no review role over graduate programs, or over RN-BSN completion programs either, and this guide found no Board step for a school outside Indiana whose graduate students train at Indiana sites. Your practicum still has two gatekeepers: the host site's own onboarding, and UofM's sign-off on the preceptor agreement form ahead of day one.
Licensing and NP practice in Indiana
Indiana put the compact into effect in July 2020. A multistate license issued by Indiana therefore travels to every member state, which covers both places UofM's admission rule cares about: Tennessee and the state where your practicums take place (license guide).
AANP groups Indiana with the reduced practice states, since every NP there works under a physician collaboration agreement that the state regulates, for at least part of practice. Your Indiana preceptor will already be working inside that arrangement, and it shapes the clinics you are likely to train in.

Where Indiana students train
UofM teaches the MSN online and matches it with in-person practicums in the student's own area. In Indiana that covers greater Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, the northwest counties that belong to the Chicago metro, and the southern Indiana side of the Louisville area.
Franciscan Health, Parkview Health, Community Health Network, IU Health and Ascension St. Vincent show how much care is concentrated in the state; they are illustrations, not hosts that have signed on for UofM students.
Wherever you train, the NP tracks share one rule, a rotation under an NP preceptor at least once, and each adds its own: family practice for the FNP, inpatient practice for the AG-ACNP. Questions UofM students ask
Must the Indiana Board sign off before my UofM practicum?
Nothing found says so. The Board's education work covers only Indiana programs that prepare students for a first-time license, and graduate study sits outside it. UofM's own approvals still apply, beginning with the partnerships office's approval of your preceptor agreement before clinicals start.
Is Indiana on UofM's list of approved states?
It is not among the partnerships office's 16. The MSN and NP certificate licensure PDFs, however, answer yes for Indiana, and UofM Global's accreditation page points to SARA. Because those sources disagree, get LCON's confirmation for Indiana in writing before you apply rather than relying on either one.
Will an Indiana compact license satisfy UofM?
Yes, for the license piece. Indiana's multistate license works at Indiana sites and also lets you practice in Tennessee. Guard it carefully: a UofM graduate student who no longer holds an unencumbered RN license is disqualified from the program, so any board action at home matters.
How many clinical hours will I need as an Indiana FNP student?
Plan on at least 750, the minimum UofM's catalog gives NP students, split evenly across three FNP practicum courses. Older UofM plan sheets list 730 or 720 hours for the FNP, so rely on the current catalog. See the NP hours breakdown.
