Oklahoma nurses in UofM's online MSN
Oklahoma sits on the list of 16 states where the Office of Community Partnerships and Practice says LCON is authorized, and UofM's licensure disclosures back that up for its NP tracks. Oklahoma's Board then writes its own terms for nurses studying with schools elsewhere: no permission request, but three conditions that all have to be true.

Three conditions in rule 485:10-5-12(c)
Oklahoma asks out-of-state schools that prepare students for a first license to get the Board's permission before clinicals. UofM's NP students hold RN licenses already, so the part that matters is subsection (c). It lets them train in Oklahoma with no such step when each of these is true:
- You hold unencumbered RN licensure that covers practice in Oklahoma.
- Whoever on UofM's faculty oversees the clinical component is licensed in Oklahoma, unencumbered, no lower than the level taught.
- UofM's program satisfies Oklahoma's education standards for APRNs.

Even for a listed state, UofM's wording is not uniform: the residency page excludes California alone, UofM Global points to SARA across 49 states, and the partnerships office stops at 16. The state authorization guide compares them.
Licensing and practice climate
Multistate licensing arrived in Oklahoma in January 2018. A multistate card issued there also reaches Tennessee, which settles UofM's RN rule on both ends. If your multistate license comes from another compact state, check with the Board that it meets the Oklahoma-license condition.
AANP rates Oklahoma restricted: NPs document physician supervision of their prescribing for 6,240 hours and may not prescribe Schedule II drugs. UofM's rule for your search is unchanged, with at least one rotation per NP track under a nurse practitioner (rotation rules).
Oklahoma's credit for preceptors
A 2024 law, HB 3351, gives Oklahoma-licensed APRNs, physicians and PAs in primary care a state income tax credit for precepting, with APRN students included. Each 160-hour rotation counts toward a yearly cap of ten, and the Health Care Workforce Training Commission awards credits by application order until its funding is used up. It is taking 2026 applications now. The commission decides whether a rotation for a Tennessee-based program counts, so preceptors should ask it.
Local practicums, from Oklahoma City outward
Coursework is online and practicums happen in person near home. Census figures for 2025 place roughly 1.5 million residents in greater Oklahoma City and about 1.07 million in greater Tulsa, with Lawton and Enid far smaller. Systems such as Hillcrest, Saint Francis, OU Health, SSM Health St. Anthony and INTEGRIS give a sense of the state's care network; they are examples, not sites committed to UofM.
For AG-ACNP hours, look for a preceptor with an inpatient practice. Every NP student also makes up to three short campus trips for intensives, posted at least six months in advance (campus intensives).

Questions UofM students ask
Must Oklahoma's Board sign off before my UofM NP practicum?
Not through a permission request. Under 485:10-5-12(c), licensed RNs in outside APRN programs are exempt when their Oklahoma-valid license is clear, their supervising faculty member holds a clear Oklahoma license no lower than the level taught, and UofM's program clears Oklahoma's APRN standards. Ask LCON about those last two points.
Is Oklahoma an authorized state for UofM?
It is on the partnerships office's list of 16, and UofM's MSN and certificate disclosures also mark the NP tracks as meeting Oklahoma's requirements. UofM still makes every admission decision, and its state sources disagree elsewhere, so confirm your address with LCON before applying.
Can my hours happen at the Tulsa hospital that employs me?
Only if compelling circumstances prevail, and then UofM's faculty and program administration must approve and document the arrangement. Ask your clinical faculty whether another unit or campus of your employer is treated differently. The workplace clinicals guide covers the rule in full.
What must an Oklahoma FNP student's rotations include?
One rotation in family practice, one precepted by a nurse practitioner, and a residency in family practice or internal medicine, spread across three practicums totaling at least 750 hours. The FNP program page shows the order and when the first practicum begins.
