Wyoming and UofM's online MSN: notice, contract, preceptor
Wyoming makes the Office of Community Partnerships and Practice's list of 16 authorized states, and UofM's licensure disclosures agree with it. For a graduate program, the Wyoming State Board of Nursing wants paperwork rather than an approval: a written heads-up and a signed facility contract. Wyoming's three checkpoints for post-licensure programs
Wyoming's Chapter 6 education rules treat an out-of-state school differently depending on its level. An LPN or RN pre-licensure program must seek permission. The post-licensure group, which names the MSN, DNP, APRN and RN-to-BSN, takes a lighter path:
- Authorization to operateWyoming requires either NC-SARA coverage or a registration with its Department of Education. UofM Global says UofM delivers online programs outside Tennessee through NC-SARA.
- A letter to the BoardNo approval is needed, but ahead of a student's Wyoming clinical the school puts the Board on notice in writing, and the Board provides a sample cover letter for that purpose.
- A contract on fileClinicals wait until the school and the Wyoming facility have signed a written agreement; the school retains its copy in case the Board asks.
Those steps belong to the school. Whether UofM has sent a Wyoming notice or signed a contract with a given facility is for LCON to tell you.

UofM's MSN clinicals are in person and local, so a Wyoming resident trains in Wyoming (local-area clinicals).

Agreement between UofM's two lists is the exception rather than the rule; the state authorization page shows how they differ elsewhere.
Full practice, and both compacts on the books
Compact licensing for Wyoming RNs dates back to January 2018. UofM's MSN wants RN eligibility in Tennessee or in the approved state where you complete clinicals, and a Wyoming license suits Wyoming practicums (RN license rules).
Wyoming also wrote the APRN Compact into Title 33 of its statutes. Five states have enacted it and seven are needed, so it remains inactive and your future APRN license is a Wyoming-only matter for now. AANP rates Wyoming full practice.
Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette and the distances between
Cheyenne and Casper are Wyoming's two metros, Gillette is a micropolitan area, and towns elsewhere sit far apart. Hospitals such as Cheyenne Regional, Casper's Banner Wyoming Medical Center, Gillette's Campbell County Health, Laramie's Ivinson Memorial (affiliated with UCHealth) and Sheridan Memorial show the kinds of settings; none is put forward here as a UofM site.
UofM makes travel to clinical sites the student's own responsibility, and NP students also come to Memphis up to three times for short intensives, with the January 2027 session required in every NP track (intensives). Count drive time alongside clinical hours.

Does the Wyoming Board have to approve UofM's MSN?
Board approval is reserved for pre-licensure programs. For an MSN, Wyoming expects written notice when a student will train in the state and a signed contract with the facility before clinicals start, and the school needs NC-SARA coverage or a Wyoming Department of Education registration.
Is Wyoming one of UofM's authorized states?
Yes. Wyoming appears among the 16 states the Office of Community Partnerships and Practice lists, and UofM's MSN and certificate disclosures mark it as meeting licensure requirements for the NP tracks. LCON still decides admission, so confirm your track with LCON before applying.
Does Wyoming's APRN Compact law help me after graduation?
Not today. Wyoming passed it, yet it only operates after a seventh state enacts it, and the count stands at five. Once board certified, UofM's disclosure says, graduates apply for an APRN license in every state where they want to practice.
What should I look for in a Wyoming FNP preceptor?
UofM wants at least one FNP rotation in a family practice setting and at least one precepted by a nurse practitioner, and the FNP residency (NURS 7649) runs in family practice or internal medicine. The FNP program page covers hours, which UofM states as at least 750.
