Wisconsin residents in University of Memphis nursing programs

Wisconsin puts nursing schools headquartered elsewhere through Board of Nursing approval, and the Board's form expressly counts graduate programs. UofM, for its part, leaves Wisconsin off the 16-state authorized list kept by LCON's Office of Community Partnerships and Practice, yet its licensure disclosures mark Wisconsin yes. Put the state question to LCON before you apply.

N 1.06 and schools from other states

Wisconsin's licensing agency, DSPS, runs the paperwork. Its form 3067-OEE (revised April 13, 2026) applies N 1.06 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code, under which any nursing school based in another state must win the Board's approval. Levels named on the form run from practical nursing through the associate and bachelor's RN (post-licensure bachelor's included) up to graduate study. Continued approval depends on a self-evaluation report.

UofM publishes nothing on Wisconsin approval either way, and this guide did not check the Board's approved-school list. LCON is the place to ask whether UofM can run practicums in Wisconsin.

UofM's records for a Wisconsin address

Because UofM's MSN clinicals happen in person where you live (local-area clinicals), Wisconsin's approval rule sits squarely in your path.

Wisconsin's new APRN license

Act 17 of 2025, Wisconsin's APRN law, went live on the first of September 2026. Four roles now carry an APRN license from DSPS: nurse practitioner, CRNA, clinical nurse specialist and nurse-midwife. Every former APNP credential was switched over to APRN, and an APRN wanting to practice with no collaborating physician files a distinct application that the Board must approve.

AANP still classes Wisconsin as reduced practice, with a physician collaborative relationship at its core, while noting the new law's start date. Wisconsin holds no APRN Compact membership, so after board certification you would apply to Wisconsin directly.

Your RN license and your preceptor's

January 2018 brought Wisconsin into the Nurse Licensure Compact. UofM's MSN admission language requires eligibility to work as a registered nurse in Tennessee or in the approved state that hosts your clinical assignments; for a Wisconsin resident, that is an active Wisconsin license (RN license rules).

Form 3067-OEE also covers who teaches you: a faculty member or preceptor in a Wisconsin clinical must be licensed by Wisconsin or hold the privilege to practice there. Since the Act 17 changeover, an NP preceptor's credential may now read APRN rather than APNP.

Milwaukee to the Fox Valley

Milwaukee-Waukesha is the largest metro, with Madison second and Green Bay and Appleton anchoring the northeast. For a feel of the settings, consider Froedtert ThedaCare Health; Aurora Health Care, which belongs to Advocate Health; UW Health; Aspirus Health; and Ascension Wisconsin. All are examples rather than UofM sites.

UofM's rotation rules come along. Each NP track puts at least one rotation under an NP preceptor, and AG-ACNP practicums, per the catalog, need a supervising preceptor with inpatient care in their practice. The rotation rules page covers the FNP and PMHNP settings as well.

Why Wisconsin students choose us

Every Wisconsin search we run starts from UofM's rules and Wisconsin's licensing terms. Whatever placement support UofM does or does not offer, we locate a Wisconsin preceptor and site suited to UofM's requirements, verify the preceptor's Wisconsin credential, and have the practice details for the preceptor agreement form in order before the term starts. Reach us through the form with your city and track.

Questions UofM students ask

Does Wisconsin have to approve UofM before I train there?

Wisconsin's Board approves nursing schools from other states under N 1.06, and Form 3067-OEE puts graduate programs within that rule. Nothing UofM publishes says whether it has that approval, so raise it with LCON before applying or planning a Wisconsin practicum.

How does Act 17 change things for Wisconsin NPs?

Since the law took hold in September 2026, DSPS issues APRN licenses across four recognized roles, APNP holders have been moved to APRN, and an NP seeking to practice without physician collaboration applies separately for Board approval. For a UofM student, the visible change is the credential your preceptor holds.

Can I start UofM's online PMHNP from Milwaukee?

Possibly, but confirm first. The MSN disclosure marks Wisconsin yes, the 16 authorized states named by UofM's partnerships office do not include it, and Wisconsin's Board must approve schools from other states. LCON can say whether it admits Wisconsin residents to the PMHNP track; the PMHNP program page covers the track itself.

How many trips to Memphis does an NP student make?

Up to three, UofM says, with each visit running one to three days and announced six or more months ahead. The January 2027 session is required in all NP tracks. See the campus intensives page for your track's schedule.
